Oh What a Beautiful Morning

Sam and I spend the first 20 minutes of our day snuggling in bed together. We cuddle, have some nummies, and sort of doze on and off until he’s really ready to wake up. I know he is ready when all of a sudden his eyes are wide open and he begins practicing various words. On most mornings I hear the usual: “Cah, choo choo, mama,” etc. On special mornings though, he incorporates his speech practice with the exploration of my face. This is the portion of the morning where he uses both hands to go over my entire head. It sounds sweet, I know. In reality it is his opportunity to try, yet again, to pick my nose, poke my eyes, and dig in my ears. On the combo mornings I get to hear words associated with my face, usually “eye.” Or, on very very special days Sam will find a new zit and exclaim, “Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh!” or, even better, upon discovery of my special blemish he will point and repeatedly yell, “A ball! A ball! A ball!” Excellent. And that is how my day begins. It’s like a middle school nightmare only the characters are a huge pregnant woman with, apparently, a zit the size of a ball on her face and a toddler.

  1. That’s truly a beautiful morning.

My 1-year old says “uh-uh.” He made poop. Then he says “ass, ass.” He wanted me to wash his hands.

    Hmm.

  2. Fun. We call it nummies (or num nums) too. And Gray loves to examine my face and pull my eyebrows out with his tweezer-like fingers. He gets the most serious look on his face when he does it. Our very own personal aestheticians. How lucky are we?!

  3. I have about five of those balls on my face right now! Ah the joys of pregnancy. jack tells me, “It’s okay, der just a liddle yucky!”. Thanks a lot kid :)

  4. How sweet! I mean, the staying in bed part. The face exploration, hmm, well, I guess that’s actually flattery from a toddler, eh? ;)

  5. Our day starts out similarly except for the dozing part. Last week A stuck her finger in my nose and when I removed it she stuck it in her own!? Funny little people.

  6. That’s a riot. I love when they point out pimples…

  7. My youngest would shove her little finger up my nose. She made it bleed three times. Not fun. When my oldest was learning his colors he would point to every zit and say RED! He also said my teeth were brown. Thanks.

  8. Yea, there’s nothing like being examined by a toddler. I have a mole rather hidden on the back of my neck (it’s a gross one, I keep meaning to get it removed but as I mentioned, it’s hard to see and I forget about it) and the kids have each taken their tiny fingers and squooshed it and said, “Oh yuck mommy, you’ve got a sore on you” or something like that. Some of their comments are less flattering.

  9. Too sweet! I remember mornings like this with my oldest….my second and third got screwed outta such nice moments though. Poor things — they missed out on the joy of poking mom over and over and mom not minding!

    I love the “uh-oh” for zits….

  10. Oh yeah, glorious zits. I would like to know when I get to stop having them? It’s not fair that I still get zits and am now facing numerous wrinkles lines as well!

  11. Ahhh… My face was a ‘ball’ pit when I was pregnant… I woke up the other morning to X saying “shhh” and stroking my hair- lovely right? Until I open my eyes and he drops his choo-choo on my head. :) And the ‘nummies’ I never thought we’d come up with a ‘cute’ name for nursing, we sign ‘milk’ and I usually just ask if he’d like to nurse, or would like some milk… but lately he’s been going on and on about ‘nonnies’ I finally put it together!
