You must chill!

The other day, in a moment of awesome maturity, I called my husband and held up the phone so that he could hear the sound of both children screaming for several minutes. They were sort of trying to outdo each other…well, Sam was trying to outdo Robby, and Robby didn’t like it. Anyway, I’d been listening to both of them scream and cry with absolutely nothing I could do about for about ten minutes. Finally I just started laughing at the ridiculousness of it and called him, you know, just cuz. We couldn’t even hear each other.

Sam has been sick this past week (again!), and it makes him very clingy(understandably so). When he gets like this he sometimes just wants me to hold him and let him sit on my lap. Somehow, this act has acquired its own name because he asks to do it when he’s upset and needs to calm down. Now, when he wants me to pick him up and put him in my lap he walks around saying, “I need Mommy to chill me out.”

  1. I need to teach A that phrase.

  2. Sorry he is sick again. There is a lot of pollen in the air right now. If it is cold symptoms, that may be the problem.

  3. :) Glad you were able to laugh at it. Either laugh or cry, and crying sucks.

  4. Sorry, but I am laughing here and sharing this post with my husband. Boy can I relate!! Both of my little rugrats are sick (again) and they are in a constant battle for my attention. It makes for long days doesn’t it?

  5. Laughing too.

Sam is a smart kid. Motherhood can be boiled down into his phrase. We are here to help our kids chill.

(is your title alluding to “Say Anything”?)

  6. How cute is that??
Our friend Steve makes fun of me because it seems that my kids always start screaming while I’m in the middle of leaving him messages. He said he’ll get a message from me talking, then all he hears are screams then I just hang up the phone without saying bye. ha! What is the point in finishing the message when I know he can’t hear me??

  7. Aren’t you glad to have that in print? I thought I wrote down a lot, back-in-the-day, but no….
    Sam is a sweetie!

  8. I’ve totally done the call-hubby-hold-phone-near-wild-beasts thing. If I can’t get some help, I should at least get a little sympathy and appreciation.

  9. Been there. Done that.

Now that my husband works from home, that never happens because all my kids are school-aged. I wonder if he believes me how hard it was when they were younger. Now, I have no excuse for my messy house and he sees how much I sit here on my computer and blog.

    Figures!

  10. [...] You know what is amazing?  When Sam wakes up in the night and is afraid or confused, he says, “Mommy.”  I am the first thing that comes to his mind.  “Mommy, I need you.”  When he gets hurt, “I need Mommy to kiss it.”  When he doesn’t feel well, “I need Mommy to chill me out.” [...]
