Candyland - A Story in Photos
Sam and I have been playing a lot of Candyland lately. He caught on remarkably fast, seeing as it’s his very first board game and all. But after a while I started to notice something a little…odd.
Here are some examples of some of the cards I was allowed to draw during our recent game.
You can assume they pretty much all looked like this.
Here are some of the cards Sam “happened” to draw.
Again, you can assume they pretty much all looked like this.
In case you can’t tell, this is a stack of all of the “special cards,” all of which were “his.”
And here’s the “pile” we were drawing from, where he directed each of us as to which card we could pick up.
And here is the face Sam makes when he knows he’s being “naughty.”

Aw- a smarty, that one.
Steph
Adorable! They’re sneaky a bit too early, don’t you think?
It’s so exciting to think that this is something I will be able to do with A soon. I so look forward to this. Even if she cheats, cause gosh, look how cute Sam is when he does it.
Ha! I was just thinking about seeing if X would be up for Chutes & Ladders or Candy Land… I have a feeling I’d get a lot of naughty face too!
Ah yes. Those first children are sneaky, aren’t they? By the time Robbie gets old enough to play, he won’t be able to pull those sneaky tricks… His brother will put a stop to it!
I will admit, though: I used to “stack the deck” when Justin was little… Just to make sure that he got at least SOME of the picture cards!
This is cracking me up. We need to give this game a go.
Hey there,
Your cousin-in-law delurking here. I just started reading your blog, great stuff, wish I had more time to catch up. I love this photo essay! You know your cousin KC is a total board game geek. I’ll send you the article he wrote on board games for preschoolers. It’s great to see all the pics of your kids - too cute! And I love the one you didn’t send into sekund. Just wait until Sam starts Kindergarten, you will finally get 1 on 1 time with Robby. A half hour after you drop off Sam, Robby will say, “When can we pick up Sam?” Well, that’s how it was at my house anyway. (-;
