Whole Lotta Blog Love

Here’s a thought: Next time you, say, are thinking of a blog title for your blog, consider the possibility that you may one day meet the people who read your blog. Imagine the moment when you arrive at, say, a dinner for mom bloggers in your area, very late, mind you, and as you walk in you realize you must introduce yourself via your blog name which, horrifyingly, draws attention to your very bad hair cut.

This was my awful realization as I walked in to meet my fellow Philly mom bloggers last night at my very first bloggy meet up. Did I mention I was late? Yes, I was very late. All were seated when I arrived. And as I came in I got to tell everyone who I was when I realized that upon revealing which blog I wrote, every single one of the 20 or so ladies would then be glancing up to my hair, which, unfortunately, looks like crap as of late. Boo.

But the dinner was great! It was so exciting to finally meet some fellow bloggers face to face. Thank you so much to Colleen of Classy Mommy and Jo-Lynne of Musings of a Housewife for organizing such a wonderful event. We’re totally excited about the circus so thank you to Mom Central. And a big thank you to Graco for feeding me and giving some mommies some swank car seats, and particularly Lindsay, who talked me into checking out Twitter, which still scares me but I’m at least set up now. We’ll see if I stick with that or not . . .

So yeah, when considering blog titles, note to self: do not draw attention to any physical attribute that you are not comfortable with a large group of people simultaneously checking out. Got that?

For excellent blog names, however, I’ve loved browsing around on Alltop. There are some really clever blog names out there, and it’s always nice to go through the big ol’ list and say, “Oh, I know her. And I know her!” I am quite humbled to be among them.

There’s a whole lot going on in blog world right now. I’m not sure how to keep up with it all. As I said, the Twitter thing freaks me out a bit. I pretty much am always behind on my blog reading/commenting and even posting, and I just don’t know how people do all of this.

I’ve been having blog-related anxiety. And I think I need to evaluate why it is that I do this and what it is that I want from it. How about you? Do you ever feel like you’ve lost sight of why you started in the first place and get just sort of caught up in the hoo-hah?

  1. I.m so glad you went. I remember it being mentioned in a previous comment and then I forgot about it. Glad you had a good time.

  2. Totally caught up in the hoo-ha. Absolutely! But it’s a lot of fun, as long as you don’t neglect your family. ;-)

  3. Your last question? About getting caught up in the hoo-ha? Yes, that’s me. Totally. Sometimes, but not always. (I guess that means, not “totally,” but you get the idea.)

And I also think the reasons WHY people blog change… so one needs to realize you may not always blog the same at the beginning as you will after you’ve been doing it for awhile. Heck, my bloggy “voice” changes sometimes from post to post. Part of it likely is that I’m still a relative newbie. (I’ve written well over 300 posts, but I’ve not yet been blogging a year.) So I’m still trying to figure some of it out. Also, many (if not most) of my readers are moms, but I’m not a mom. So I constantly struggle to achieve my bloggy goals (whatever they are) but also be at least somewhat interesting to the friends I’ve made the past year.

Note to self: look back at this comment in a few weeks when working on 1st blogoversary post. :)

  4. Wish I could have been there, too! And oh, the blog thing. I hover over that “delete blog” button far too often. I weave in & out of what I want it to be and where I want it to go. Right now I’m in the just letting it go with the flow mode and that seems to work for me. Getting stressed out about blogging seems so contradictory for me.

  5. You crack me up…honestly, I did not look at your hair. I was way to busy pouring my wine since I had just sat down only seconds before you came. I think everybody had just gotten settled from me making them move!!

Congrats on joining Twitterland! I saw you added me so I am now following you back. Really, it is nothing as “stressful” as blogging. I just peruse a little, comment if I want, and move on. The great thing is that you can be short and sweet and call it a day or night or naptime!!

I think all bloggers have to assess and reassess what they do and why they do it. I seem to go through phases. For me I blog for my own sanity. It feels good to just write things and record memories that I know I will probably forget…like tomorrow! I think it is important to be able to let go sometimes too though. I had over 400 some items in my reader the other day and have to say that some I marked as read and I had never went by. Oh well, we do all have “real” lives with “real” kids and families and it is important to keep the priorities straight. You will find a happy medium!!!

It was great sitting next to you last night. Happy Weekend!

  6. Your blog anxieties are exactly why I refuse to jump on the bandwagon with Twitter. I have enough anxiety keeping up with my blog, I don’t need to waste my time following a blow-by-blow of someeone’s day!

  7. You are TOO funny! Now I have some serious blog-anxiety about how those who don’t know that I am a mom of twins might interpret my blog title!

Like Amber, I think I need to declare Twitter off-limits…the blog is enough of a pull from my housewifely responsibilities. If I Twittered, my kids would have to wear dirty underwear and eat goldfish all day! ;)

Thanks for popping by my blog! Adding you to my blogroll!

  8. It was great meeting you on Friday! We should get our kids together at the park sometime, since we live so close.

  9. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am glad you had a good time at your get together. I like the title of your blog ;)

  10. […] I follow you on Twitter? Heck, no! That was way too much for me, ya’ll. It lasted what, like 24 hours? I know, I’m so old […]

  11. A bloggy meet up? How lucky are you??? How I wish there was something like that here in this little town but I seriously doubt as to whether many here know even how to power up a computer.

As for Twitter …. sadly that will never be me as I have a hard enough time even posting something on my blog site. I wouldn’t want to draw attention to that (should I even have readers) I don’t have time to post. I am constantly in awe and admiration for all of you who do consistantly post, and post about interesting or comical stuff. Me? 90% of the time I delete a post because after proofing it, it sound just plain stupid. Kind of sad isn’t it?

  12. Meeting blogpals IRL is surreal and fun!

Blogging…I’ve asked myself the same questions in the last two years. The blog can be a real buzz when people are reading/commenting. But, then, well, sometimes life takes over and readers are lost in the process. How to get the ball rolling again is my current question. I did a giftcard giveaway last week in honor of my 200th post—-and only 2 people responded. And, I know them IRL!! They don’t even blog!

Thanks for linking Alltop and Twitter. Congrats to you for being on the MOM page! I didn’t know these sites existed. Maybe that’s part of my blogging dilemma. :-)Chrissy

  13. How neat you got to meet other bloggers!! I would love to meet mom bloggers in Scottsdale/Phoenix area!! And you have such a valid point on the name. ..:-)

  14. well i love the blog title and your hair was fabulous! but i agree on the whole naming your blog thing…… i could tell stories too and in retrospect i would have picked something else ut at this point i’m definitely stuck with it! so i guess i better start acting a lot more classy ha ha ha

  15. Wish I could have been there! And think how I feel…and I totally didn’t think of that till reading your post…but my title is Stinky John Jones!
Hey, my name is Val and I’m stinky! You think that goes over well? ha!

  16. I saw your picture on Jo’s blog, your hair looks great, what are you talking about??? :-)

  17. I was drawn to your blog by the name. lol - the idea of the mom’s hair cut stuck in my brain like the idea of ‘mom jeans’. And I understand what you are saying - I became slackermomatlarge only out of a joke with my friend and neighbor who said if you do it, I’ll be slackermomII. So those are our blogs. Do I consider myself to be a slacker? Not necessarily….but the name has stuck.

    Great reading your blog!

  18. So Bummed I couldn’t make it.

  19. You had me at hoo-haa ;)
