A wedding with some Martha Stewart

We’re back. We survived. When I returned from the wedding no one was crying. One was awake though. Apparently Robby had gone to bed fairly well, but then woke up a few hours later and when I wasn’t there he woke up completely, as though it was a new day or he’d just had a nice nap. He was wide awake and playing when I got home, and proceeded to stay up until about 1:30am when Hubby got home. Maybe I should have just stayed for the whole thing, huh?

Sam did ok. He was sad and cried when it was time to go to bed and I wasn’t there. They had him come back downstairs and sit for a while until he was very tired, and then he went back up to go to bed. I think everything was handled well and no one has any permanent damage. I’m hoping to have some time before we have to do something like this again, though. But Hubby’s toast was magnificent - he was the best man, this was his brother’s wedding - and I had a great time while there, and enjoyed getting to see the family for a short while.

Thank you all for your comments. It’s nice to know I am not actually in the minority with the choice to not generally leave our kids with sitters at night. I don’t have much perspective since we are the first in our immediate family with kids, and are really the only ones dealing with issues like this. But it sounds like we’re a little more normal than I’d realized.

And now we’re not home a full day before I have another FASHION QUANDARY for you, perhaps even bigger than the first! Are you ready?

I don’t know what to wear on Wednesday when I go to the . . .

taping of the . . .

Martha Stewart Show! . . .

about . . . you’ll never guess . . .

BLOGGING!

Where we, the audience, will be . . .

LIVE BLOGGING the event!

For real!

Sarah from Genesis Moments has graciously shared her tickets to the Martha show with some fellow Philly Mom Bloggers, and I get to be part of the partay! So in addition to trying to figure out how the heck we are going to get into NYC by 7:30am on Wednesday, I need to figure out what to wear. It’s a dilemna, especially for me. Here are the instructions we’ve been given:

Please dress to impress. Everyone in the studio audience should be prepared to be photographed on camera.
Women: Dress to impress! Dressy and fun— a chic dress, dressy jeans, or trendy and fashionable outfits are suggested.  Bright colors photograph best. Recommended:  Dress shoes/heels.
DO NOT WEAR: T-shirts, large printed logos on shirts or pants, white shirts, or wild prints. No hats, sleeveless tops, or gym sneakers are permitted.

Yeah, ummmm . . . Let me just scan through this and note the potential issues . . . impress (that could be a problem) . . . dressy . . . chic (can we define that, please?) . . . dressy (again. I guess I have to take that one very seriously) . . . trendy/fashionable (you mean like, recent and not from 5 years ago?) . . .bright (not black? oh jeez) . . . dress shoes/heels (yeah, definitely don’t have any of those) . . . no t-shirts (uh-huh, kay . . .)

Yeah. I kid you not, I cannot think of one single thing that I own that fits this description. Not any part of it. I can think of no top, no bottom, and certainly, certainly no shoes.

If only I could live blog my trip to the mall tomorrow.

  1. Oh what fun you will have! My curiosity: How in the world will your shoes even show? Cannot think of a time in recent history where a guest audience’s feet were in the picture!

You will find the perfect thing! Have a GREAT time, can hardly wait to read along! :)

  2. Do you have time to hire a stylist? I haven’t even got the slightest idea what IS in fashion right now… O NOES!

  3. Take a look at the link you provided for the show. Those people in the audience don’t look all that trendy. Looks casual to me. Slacks and sweater or shirt. Reds and corals really stand out. Even Martha looks pretty casual. I say go with comfy shoes. You will probably be going in on the train and walking a good bit. Hope they allow you to have a backpack. What fun. I’m excited for you.

  4. Oh my gosh! How fun!

I’ve never watched Martha, but will have to check it out.

Go to Banana Republic and get something in a plum, if they have it. Here’s a look:

But the pants are kinda disturbing. They look like they’d give you a wedgie, but they are stylish. No denying that.

OR, if you really want to kill me, personally, you’ll get an outfit at Anthropologie (because I’ll die of jealousy):

Any one of those would do.

Good luck! Is it THIS Wednesday?

  5. so much fun though!!!! :)

  6. That sounds SOOO awesome! Have a great time!

  7. This is a test. This is only a test.

  8. yay a REAL excuse to go shopping!!!!! we demand to see a picture!

  9. So lucky! I stink at dressing up, I have NO nice clothes right now. If I were you I would go to Ann Taylor and tell them what’s up, the ladies there are usually really sweet. We almost never go out late enough to make someone put our kids to bed, because it is such an ordeal! Jack is pretty good now, we got him a CD player and he goes to sleep while listening to a book on CD, perfecto! Sorry I don’t stop by as much, I also stink at blogging lately (like for the past year!)

  10. I’m glad everyone survived the wedding night! :)

Martha Stewart event - SO cool!

But the punk in me is bitter about the specific instruction regarding dress code and would make me want to show up in a Cure t shirt, baggy jeans and my ratty puma sneakers. I mean, come on. How ridiculous! If they really want to portray blogging they should allow people to come as they are. They would get the realistic mix of styles which would represent the different kinds of bloggers… rant, rant, rant.

I still think it’s cool though. And I hope you have fun picking something out for the show. Just make sure that although it fits their code, you still like it and will wear it.

  11. How cool is THAT! I agree with Katie, go to Ann Taylor or Banana or Anthropologie, whatever is your style and ask for help. Or if it were me — I’d totally check the clearance racks first. THEN ask for help.

Purple and gray are the “in” colors for fall, as far as I know.

  12. Great post! We have to connect today. Did you look at the map? I’ll do that now.

  13. I’m right there with ya. Sooo bad at fashion. I would end up wearing a plain knit T-shirt. Cause when it’s a solid color you can call it a top, not a T-shirt. Right?

  14. Ok, first? WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!! That is so exciting! Live Blogging a tv show!!! Cool beans, hon.

Second? Dress to impress? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I have no words of advice other than try to shop withOUT the boys…

Glad the wedding went so well. The sleeping stuff could have gone SO much worse!

Ask Big Mama. I bet she would devote a non-Friday edition of her Fashion Friday to your emergency. It’s totally up her alley.

  16. You’re going to have SO much fun!!!

I’ll meet you at the mall! Did you find something already?

I’d wear dressy jeans and a cute top with 3/4 length or long sleeves, were I going. And probably high heeled boots, since the weather is getting cooler and boots are more comfy than pumps, IMO. :-)

  17. [...] All right gals, for tomorrow: [...]

  18. That’s great the boys made out ok while you were at the wedding.
I can’t believe all the great things bloggers get to do. Going to the show will be a blast! Do they give you all laptops?
