Lesson Learned
As you may recall, Sam has had some trouble with the concept of losing, especially when it comes to playing Candyland. Well, today we had another game for the first time since that instance. The poor child drew the ice cream cone and was almost at the end when he picked up that blasted gingerbread man and had to practically start over. When it was clear to me that there was no way he was going to catch up, I said, “Now Sam, are you going to be ok if I win this game?”
Now wait for it . . . wait for iiiit . . .
“Yes, Mommy. Sometimes I win and sometimes you get to win. That’s the game!”
Holy crap. Excuse me while I wipe the sweat from my brow and the tear from my eye.

In other news, Robby and I attended a trial class at The Little Gym today. It was fun. It was cute seeing him reach for the bar and hold his weight while he turned red in the face. And I figured it would be a nice thing for us to do while Sam is at school one day each week. So I fully intended to sign up. And I was approached by one of the brochure-armed employees to see if I had questions, etc. We chatted about the class and started talking about cost, discounts for siblings and so forth.
Then she started talking about payment plans. And I was like, “Payment plan, how much is this exactly?” Um, $360. For one kid. Oh, not including the annual membership fee. So really it’s bordering on $400 for one kid for one session. So if we wanted both boys to take a class there for one session it would be nearly . . . wait for it . . . wait for iiiiiit . . . $750. Holy Crap.

Lastly, I apologize profusely for not being around your blogs and not responding to emails and comments lately. We’ve been having major computer trouble that has caused every task that involves being online (read: blogging, commenting, emailing, using GoogleDocs, which is how I write everything) to take about 5 times as long as it should. It was frustrating - holy crap, it was. But I think we’ve just figured out the issue and fixed it, so I hope to catch up with all of ya’ll this weekend. So have a good one. Go check out a class at the Little Gym why dontcha!

WOW! That price is absurd! You guys should join the YMCA and take classes there if you have one near. That’s what we’ve done, and love it. They even offer scholarships, which has been so incredibly helpful with my husband being a full time student right now.
This is why I enjoy storytime at the public library
But really, $750? Is that a monthly fee? You could buy the boys a couple of cars for that.
that’s insane! CRAZY…
Hmmmm… Companies to NOT invest my money into in the stock market? Little Gym.
That’s NUTS.
Call your YMCA or something. We have a place nearby that has open gym with all the good stuff for a daily charge. That’s much more my style. We haven’t gone this winter (cuz we’re BROKE) but if I can scrounge a $5 up, we’ll be there.
Holy Crap! (
) That’s so much money!!! I assume this means you won’t be joining.
Miss A is only starting to get into games. The other day she wanted to play PARTY GAMES! So we played musical chairs. (In her version, everyone gets a chair the first round. Isn’t that nice?) Her and her dad played a few rounds while I played (ha!) the piano. She won every time but the last and she was NOT happy about it. We’ll need to work on that one.
Well, it’s not monthly. That fee is for a 20 week session, which works out to about $18 per class, which is still pretty ridiculous, IMO.
Yikes! That is a chunk. You’re making me feel better about my $140 music class. 20 weeks is pretty long though, no wonder they have payment plans!
Maybe I should open a gym in my basement? Ca-ching!
We have a Little Gym about three minutes from our house and got a coupon in the mail for a trial class, too. I thought I’d check it out, but I am TERRIBlE when it comes to holding myself together during a sales pitch. I feel guilty for declining, or I do something stupid…like say yes.
When my 5-year old loses, he tells me: “Great job, Daddy. Did that make you feel good?”
I think he let me win.

I for one will say that the Little Gym is amazing here in Huntsville. We took Eve to a place for a while that had a good team and they were nice enough, but man… I’m blown away by the Little Gym.
Our classes only average $13.50 if you pay in advance. Considering a 1/2 hour of piano lessons cost that much, I think an hour of gymnastics is worth it. (Of course, I don’t pay for it either! My parents do.)
Eve’s also already into the “real” gymnastics because she’s 8. They’re teaching her back handsprings and fun stuff like that. I wouldn’t think of enrolling my baby into their mommy and me programs. I mean… I can teach my baby the bear crawl at home for free, thank you!
Holy Minolli. I can’t believe how much that costs. Oh wait, yes I can. I was going to sign Jayce up for Kindermusik until I did the math and figured out we’d have to sacrifice his senior year of college to pay for it. Turns out the maracas we have at home work just fine thankyouverymuch.
And, can I just say, three cheers for Sam’s realization about the Candyland?! Kudos, mama, for taking the hard stand!
I am a gymboree lady, because until recently I did not even know about little gym. But looking at the price - YIKES - but I pay for gymboree (just went monthly but now get 20% off because I keep signing back up) and love the fun we have there… so if you do decide to go to little gym, have a blast!
Sarah,
I would totally spend $13-15 on a class. In fact I have when I’ve done music classes with the boys. I think Little Gym seems great too and would have loved to do a class, but, well, it’s just too much. And you’re right - there’s a big difference between the mommy and me classes versus the real gymnastics classes, which is what I would have had Sam do. I still have him scheduled to do a trial class soon, so we’ll see how that goes. I think he’d really like it and it would be good for him too. But again…$18 per class…it’s a lot. I imagine I’ll be quite torn if he really loves it.
dude. that is CRAZY talk! we go to a playgroup once a week for 1.5 hours and it’s five bucks. and it’s “drop-in” so you don’t have to commit. you just go when you want to. and there is a free one on mondays, first come first served 12 kids max. do you have a community center nearby?
