Fast Track to Happiness

This morning Hubby sent me a link to this post. Of course, I have no idea what might make him think I would care to see this today. Surely not my disgusting mood in the car this morning as we dropped him off at the train station . . . surely not. Anyway, I thought I’d share it, since from what I can gather from my blog reading I’m not the only one who might be suffering from a “Happiness Emergency.” The winter is dragging on for many of us, and if your family is like mine, you’ve been battling various stomach bugs and colds for what feels like an eternity - to not have everyone in the family be healthy for weeks on end in fact is an eternity, I think.

I could relate to many of the suggestions. I know for sure that ridding myself of an annoying task is always a great way to feel better and congratulate myself. Reaching out to friends? Considering I was thinking just this morning about how it feels like we’ve been hibernating in our house forever, completely cut off from all society speaks to that one. And the one-minute rule for creating a calmer environment is huge. My relationship with the clutter in my house is a post in and of itself, and I’m sure we can all attest to the fact that feeling overwhelmed by crap makes us feel like crap. Lastly, I’m a big fan of the counting of blessings. Ever since this post I’ve been trying to be diligent about writing down a few things I am grateful for at the end of each day. This change in mind set goes a long way, at least for me.

I hope there’s a little something you can do today to help you escape from the doldrums of cold, overcast skies, and viruses.

  1. I love winter BUT even I am beginning to feel the wear of February. sigh. I treated myself to a pedicure during my lunch break today! And… I’m counting down the days to March which is just a little closer to April. My goal is April.

I think shopping in gardening magazines always makes me feel better too. Like there’s some hope.

  2. Thanks for this–I needed it!

  3. I wish I had some wise advice, but I don’t. Playdates are good. Yesterday the one thing that got me through was looking forward an evening at the local pub watching Twilight (again) with a girlfriend.
I do recommend this video however- (warning - bad language so wait till the kids are in bed or wear headphones). Darth Vader in the canteen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muaAZE0M3LU

  4. The winter is REALLY getting to me. It always does, though. I just expect it. UGH.

  5. I FINALLY got out of the house today and did the whole walk with the family thing. And, of course, it helped. Birds chirping and sunshine always help. Not stepping out my front door for 10 days because everyone’s so miserably sick doesn’t help. Thank God it’s about over! And Spring doesn’t seem so far away any more.

  6. Wow, another friend just sent me this same blog link today! Small world when it comes to blogging, eh? I have added that site to my RSS feed. Great tips!
