I Can’t Wait!
Well, you know I love her, but Barabara Kingsolver has done it for me again, this time with her first non-fiction work. For the past 48 hours all I’ve been saying to my husband is “I LOVE this book! This book is amazing! How did she get so smart?!” And it’s true. I’m only two chapters in but I already know that this is one of those life-changers. I’ve already learned so much from it and have gotten so excited for spring.
I want to plant our first vegetable garden and grow at least some of our food. I want to do it with my children. Seriously, I can’t wait.
But even if gardening isn’t your thing (and we have yet to see if it is mine) I would still recommend Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, and I know many of you would love it too.

I’m venturing into gardening this year, too. I’ve always done flowers, and I’ve had an occassional tomato plant here and there, but this year, I’m going to try a container garden for all our normal veges…. tomato, cucumber, pepper, lettuce. I may throw in some strawberries, too.
I’m excited.
I tried a small herb garden before and love the fresh herbs, but got lazy! I think I would enjoy this book, but more so my mama too. I think I may pick up a copy for her and then borrow it
Chicka — I read it just before the holidays and got totally inspired. (blogged it here: http://www.crazyfortrying.com/?p=990)
Maybe a Philly Moms Eat Local blog is in order.
I know there are others out there…
oh, and check out

Thanks for blogging this because I’m wondering how else I would find out about these sorts of things. I really like Kingsolver and we are hoping to do a small garden this year too.
I ADORED this book. I read it in July of 2007. I know this, because I blogged about it on July 31: http://www.ramblingsbyreba.com/2007/07/31/how-much-is-that-apple-in-the-window/. And I know THAT date, because it’s the first thing I do when I click on “July 2007″ in my blog search.
LOVED. THIS. BOOK. I’m planning on rereading it this summer.
P.S. This is the first Kingsolver book I’ve read. Also the last. I picked it up because I thought the topic was so cool.
ooohhh, Beth, I am so intrigued. need to put it on my library hold list tonight! We joind a CSA last year for our veggies and liked it alot, but also didn’t like a few things too. We are also planning our very first garden for this season and I am beyond excited. Doing the research is so much fun. Thanks for this recommendation…you’ve got me so excited about this book.
I’ll have to check it out. I’ve had a vegetable garden since I can remember, even the years I lived in the apartment I had tomato plants on our balcony.
Jenn
I loved this book and have given several copies of it as gifts.
I am going to check the library today to see if they have this book. I have always wanted a garden but never had the space or time to deal with it. However, living where we live now, the possibilities are endless seeing as we will be finishing the landscaping in our yard. Thanks for the tip!!
