Not So Manic . . . Monday

boys bed head I have a little secret. I actually really love Monday mornings. I know. Gasp. What on earth would I love about the start to the week, the end of a too short weekend? Well, I used to hate it when this time rolled around each week just as much as most people. So I started to go really, really easy on myself during the dreaded time. I decided to take Mondays about as easy as could be.

Mondays for us now mean we stay in pajamas for most of the day. The kids and I do some chores around the house together and do art projects. If we go out, we only play in the yard or go for a walk. I can’t remember the last time I drove us somewhere on a Monday. I don’t pressure myself to do anything at all that doesn’t come naturally. I set no appointments and honestly, I don’t even schedule playdates for Mondays.

You know that feeling you have when you wake up and realize you have something you don’t want to do that day? In essence I’ve tried to remove that feeling from my Monday. And now, when the dreaded time rolls around, the kids and I lay in bed together for as long as we want, slowly make it downstairs, and I think, Ah, it’s only Monday.

And I certainly have some great bed heads to look at all morning.

  1. your bed heads are too cute! Good for you for cutting out the stress, even if its for just one day!

  2. unless completely unavoidable, this is what my mondays are like too! I am so glad you said something though because I typically feel REALLY guilty about mondays…

  3. Your Dad never scheduled meeting on Mondays. Mondays are for recovering from the weekends.

  4. Brilliant! We had that kind of Monday today, except I did have to get my daughter off to school. It was glorious.

Missed seeing you on Friday! Hope all is well.

  5. I SO like the way you think. :)

  6. love your Monday plan! love those heads of messy curls even more!

  7. Yeah, I SO have to stop volunteering at the Y on Monday mornings. It’s a terrible way to start the week.

And those are the cutest bedheads EVER.

  8. Daaaaaang, thassa GOOD idea! Especially looking back on the horrific day I’ve had today, I could use a break.

  9. Great idea for Mondays - just extend the weekend a little. Ahhh, I remember the days when we could lounge around in the mornings. Can you believe our elementary school starts at 8am?! Now we can only lounge in the summer.

  10. i love mondays, too…..but i admit it’s because bb goes to school! not that i don’t love having him around. i do. but he doesn’t enjoy it as much. he loves school and every morning asks, “is this a school day?” and if it is he says, “YAY! i can play with my friends.” apparently me and the toddler are a bit boring for him.

  11. I love how you’ve redefined Mondays. You prove that it’s all in your outlook. It doesn’t have to be “just another manic Monday.” Great idea!

  12. I love this idea! Certainly must take away that Sunday night feeling of dread…!
