A Beginner’s Vegetable Garden - Journal Entry Two

I think it’s safe to say you’ve had a bit of a transformation if you wake up in the morning and say aloud, “Oh good, it looks like rain.” With no hint of sarcasm. I’ve been a gardening fiend over here, so much so, that when I had my choice of activities on Mother’s Day I spent most of my time planting. (Now, if you listen carefully you’ll probably hear my Dad laughing hysterically.) That Sunday I did the flower bed and the carrot seeds.

Later in the week Sam and I staked the tomato plants and set up the staking system (posts and string) for the sugar snap peas. I transferred the lettuce from the cells in the greenhouse to the garden, and then Wednesday (13th) the kids and I transferred the peas outside.

So, remember what it all looked like in early May? Well, here’s where we are now:

Sugar snap peas climbing up and a view of all four rows of veggies, plus a row of Marigolds to hopefully deter bunnies.

Inside the greenhouse, the tomato and pepper plants. The tomatoes almost reach the ceiling now, and unfortunately we did lose the 3rd pepper plant to those nasty aphids, so the little guy in the front right is the replacement.

  1. I’m impressed!

    Love sugar snap peas :)

  2. I am so jealous of that greenhouse!

Our seedlings were planted, then that frost a couple weeks ago killed them.
So we are on planting number two. Which are doing great. But I didn’t have time for peas.

    You plants are gorgeous!

  3. they look awesome!

  4. It all looks amazing and it doesn’t surprise me in the least since I happen to know that anything you put your mind to do, you do with perfection.

  6. Yes, those tomato plants are impressive. I really need to stake mine. They’re still small, but I know they won’t stay that way for long. Everything in your garden looks great!

  7. Your garden looks great! My broccoli has been growing like crazy, and my lettuce has finally started growing. I’m hoping my carrots and cucumbers start to come up soon.

Your peppers are doing far better than mine! I’m not sure if mine will make it.
