On A Day Like Today

The sky is so dark from the rain that it almost looks like it’s still night. Or like we woke up in the wee hours. In fact we woke up at 8:00, sleeping in together and listening to the rain and enjoying the lack of sun in our faces. The thunder has been rumbling almost constantly ever since, a steady, low growl. The cats are hiding under the beds, and the boys are cuddled on the couch together under blankets typically folded up in the linen closet. They’re watching Curious George and snuggling, and Sam is sick with a horrible cough, so I don’t feel the least bit guilty over letting him rest and relax with his brother in front of the tube as they rub their eyes and yawn. There will be no summer camp today; instead we’ll stay in pajamas until dinner time, and then change to another set.

Fresh coffee is brewing. Fresh bread is baking.

I often complain that I just wish I could commute to this job of mine, here at home with the boys. I often think that if I could just have half an hour in the morning to read or listen to music on my own, I’d start my day off right. But on a day like today, I’m so very glad I woke up “at work.”

And now, if you’ll excuse me, my presence has been requested on the couch.

  1. Finally, the rain has stopped here and the birds are singing. It was such a dark and stormy early morning! Have fun snuggling.

  2. this sounds HEAVENLY! i wish i had the same thing going on. we DID have camp today. they never cancel. but i am surrounded by messes that need cleaning. and i can’t seem to get myself up and get it under control. . . reading blogs is so much more fun!

  3. the smells in your home, this morning, must be amazing. I only wish my mornings were as lovely… And i’d take those dark, rainy skies, in a heartbeat!

  4. Oh, that would be nice… a commute.

  5. Commutes are not all they are cracked up to be.

  6. Couch, bread, coffee… wish I was there!

  7. Sounds like a great day to me.

  8. Sounds like a great way to spend a morning. I get both worlds, as I just work part time. And I MUCH prefer my mornings at home. I hate the rush to get ready and get both kids out the door fast.

I do love raining mornings and sunny afternoons.

  9. oh yeah I was thinking about you tonight wondering if Robby loves cars as much as Sam? Nathan’s personality is evolving, and he seems to love everything Lucas does. Although he prefers animals to cars.

  10. Other than being sick, it sounds like a good day. I hope the little guy is feeling better.

  11. That sounds really, really nice. Fresh bread. Mmmm… Hope Sam feels better soon!

  12. Sigh….
