Here’s Where You WON’T Find Us

It’s mid-way through the summer, and it is clear to me that I’m creating the most horrific of summer travesties, the most unforgivable of parental blunders, the most alarming of mommy mistakes: I haven’t joined the pool. It’s true. When (apparently) every other family is getting their swimsuits on and sunblock applied, my kids and I are most likely still in our pajamas, sitting around and eating our multiple course breakfasts.

It’s not that I didn’t intend to join for the season. I have the webpage with the instructions for joining our local pool saved in my bookmarks and everything. But days turned to weeks, and I just didn’t motivate to do anything about it. Now, what do you know? It’s nearly August and between you and me, it ain’t gonna happen.

  1. Just wait until the little one (yes I know his name) is 3 and then you don’t have to get into the pool, unless they beg you to take them early for extra swimming. I’ve lucked out getting both the girls lessons at the same time - no hanging out for hours at the pool! I vote for the kiddie pool in the back yard - convenient and private - although we still haven’t cleaned ours out yet. I’m dreading lessons today - as it will be over 100 degrees. Crazy!

  2. We have paddling pools and spray parks here. They are much more appealing than actual pools when kids are this young. I only do the pool if both Peter and I are available. One of us for each kid. Don’t feel bad at all. I bet you are having a FAR more relaxing summer than the Mom’s who are constantly yelling “No! NO! Stay in the kiddie pool! Don’t run! Be careful! Don’t splash!” Your kids will learn to swim but they don’t have to do it right now.

  3. Jammies all morning…that’s my children’s #1 choice. School starts two weeks from tomorrow and we are ALL in denial!

  4. We’ve spent more days this summer in our pj’s than I care to admit. You’re not alone!
