Holiday Status Check
All right, I’d say I’m at about . . . 60% done? Maybe not that much.
Completed:
All the stuff for the boys; gifts for one set of siblings (that’s 1 of 3 sets, by the way, and a set includes between 2 and 3 individuals); all but one pair of parents (and that’s 2 complete pairs out of 3); teachers; extended relatives.
The things that haunt me:
Our Christmas cards have not even arrived, so obviously they are not done; the aforementioned 7 siblings/sibling spouses, and the bigger problem here is that we don’t have any ideas for many of them; my parents, although I at least have a few possibilities in mind for one; MY HUSBAND.
Well, that’s looking like less than 60% to me now.I feel like not having gifts for some is one thing, but having no ideas for them at this point is pretty significant . . .
What percentage do you give yourself? Doing better than me? In a weird way I want you to say you are just so I can prove my husband wrong - he scoffs at me when I say we’re behind.
Anyway, be sure you don’t forget one of people I mentioned above, and I know it’s a toughie, so go on over here to find out what not to do for your child’s teacher:)

I think I’m done with my kids but I still have the rest of my family and my husband’s family! And haven’t even ordered Christmas cards yet! Plus, I did forget Kiki’s teacher until you just reminded me and I want to do her bus driver as well! Well, now I’m extremely depressed!!
Mmmm….maybe 5%? I’m a glutton for the last minute frenzy.
I’m at no more than 25%, I’d say. Kid stuff done, except stocking stuffers. Nothing yet for my parents, husband, or ILs, including my niece who also gets a birthday gift. Still need something else for my assigned sibling. No cards. Not even a tree yet! (Although we did the rest of the decorating.)
I’m probably at 75%, maybe slightly more. Presents are all bought (we don’t exchange with anyone… just get a few things for each of our own kids. This will change when we have nieces and nephews, but for now, our kids are the only ones in the family. What a relief!). I still need to wrap.
Tree’s up, Menorah’s getting cleaned from last year. Lights are around the door, I have my oil fondue pot ready for the Christmas/Hanukkah meal (and it’s our lucky year, as they coincide this year).
DH and I still need to decide on charitable giving for the holidays, and today I’m making a list of cookies to make for our neighbors.
If I have time, I’ll write up a Christmas letter and e-mail a PDF of it to our friends. But that’s probably a bonus, and if it doesn’t happen, oh well.
About 50% or less. Cards are almost all completed, but the decorations and tree are still in the basement. 25% of gifts purchased. I’m much farther behind this year than most and it’s stressing me out!
We’re almost done. Just a pair of battery-heated socks (WTH should I find THOSE>??) and 2 XXL sweatshirts. Then we’re DONE.
We are skipping the cards this year. I’ll blame the economy instead of my lack of desire…
UGH! I can’t even give a percentage b/c I don’t know what I have. I am the person that shops after Christmas for all the great sales. Like 50-70% off at Williams and Pottery Barn. Cute gifts for cheap. Well, I am also the person that forgets about these gifts b/c they are on the third floor and I never go up there. So I have already picked up gift over the past three weeks, plus I know I have my stash upstairs.
But what is really bad - Christmas cards! Just ordered them today. I know, I know…
15% I have not had success so far! I’m hoping for some great last minute deals!
Chistmas card are done at least…
Beth… first of all, I’m 0% done with Christmas… well, okay I’ll up that a little because I did buy books and movies for my son on Amazon.com and I only need two more things for him and he’s the one I spend the most money and time getting gifts for. I would do more for my parents but the problem is they don’t need anything really and I know they always appreciate wine so I’ll probably just get them that.
I have a good excuse though! I’m finishing my last two papers to complete my master’s degree. And it’s all okay anyway because I’m off work all next week (and the week after that and the week after that, I work at a community college) so I have plenty of time to decorate and shop and… maybe bake.
Hey, THANKS for linking that thing about gifting to teachers. I’m embarrassed… I wasn’t actually thinking I’d get her anything, but I can see now I definitely SHOULD and that I should make it something useful. I was thinking a gift card and I was even going to make it a VISA gift card so she could use it anywhere for anything. Good reminder, good info. Thanks for that.
I am 100% in denial! I cant even tell you about my status because I do not have the courage to take stock. I will say that we havent even taken the picture for our holiday card, so I am thinking it is going to be a happy new year card this year… maybe happy valentines day…
As a former teacher, I must thank you profusely for linking to the teacher gift post. So accurate!!
i sit back while examining my own unpreparedness (my cards are here and done, however we’ve lost ALL of our holiday stamps… where the heck are they???) and ask myself “is it supposed to be this stressful and chaotic?
i don’t think so.
I love holidays but not the being so crazy busy you want to pull your own hair.
I have no idea what my percentage might be. I am disgusted by the fact that we’ve had our tree since Sunday and there it stands with not one single decoration. And I feel terribly guilty that Miss A keeps saying “Can we decorate the tree?” and I keep saying “We have to get the lights on first.” which hasn’t happened because we are insane people who pass each other at the door and then are too exhausted by the time the kids go to bed to tackle the job. AND due to my broken ankle just after Christmas last year I did not put any of our decorations and cards etc. away so I have no idea where so much of it is. I’ve been finding bits and pieces in random shopping bags. Sigh. Feel better yet?
[...] I’m still at 60%. Have done nothing since that post. Nothing holiday related, nothing much of anything. Except the [...]
I am a nut about the holidays & a pre-planner. I had started my list back in early November & started there. We knocked out gifts for my daughter right away since it was easy what she wanted–a dollhouse. anyone with ears knows she wants a dollhouse. so we went to AC Moore & bought one of those dollhouses on sale. We also bought her little things like Play Doh & a Barbie (her first Barbie). then from there, we work down the list for all the cousins, friends, etc. I am proud to say that i have been 100% done for the past week (I had some miscellaneous teacher gift cards to get last week).
[...] Holiday Status Check: I’ll give myself a 95%. I still have two bags and two boxes of stuff to drop off at various donation sites. Oh, and during my fitted sleep I dreamt that Hubby had gone out and bought the gift I got for him and now I’m scared about that. Other than nagging him to write the few Christmas cards that are for his contacts, I think I’m done. Gifts are wrapped and hidden, cookies are baked, but half still need icing and decorations. [...]
