Words
Last night when Sam was getting out of the car to go to see a doctor about his ear pain, I went through my regular reminder that he should stand by his car door and wait for me while I got Robby out of his seat. Our regular method is that I undo his buckles and he then gets himself down from the car as I get Robby. Halfway through my typical speech he stopped me, saying, “I know Mommy. You don’t have to tell me over and over again because I’m a big boy. I know to stay by the door. Okay? Next time don’t tell me. Okay?” I stood there, grinning at him and just looking. After what was apparently too long of a pause he then said, “Do you understand my words?” And then I promised him I wouldn’t tell him next time because indeed, he is a big boy.
And in other verbal news, Robby had his first phrase today: “Cop car,” or, in this case “Cah caaah.”

Out of the mouths of babes
Hilarious!
Missed you at Colleen’s!! Sorry you couldn’t make it. I had fun but couldn’t only stay part of the time b/c of my kids at home sick.
Hope to see you the next time.
“Do you understand my words?” cracked me up. I can just picture him with his hands on his hips looking for you to answer him. Oh they grow up so fast!
Ah, that is adorable.
And we too have a cop spotter. It actually works wonderfully when you are driving.
They grow up so quickly!
And wait until they et old enough to understand what’s going on when that cop caaah, actually catches you speeding…and you are sitting around the table eating dinner and they give a play by play for your husband.
Its then that you wish that they hadn’t learned to talk at all….
That is classic. I wish I could stop repeating myself with A. Na uh. She’d be running out into traffic… sigh. Good for Sam.
DAng. He told YOU!
And… did you then ask Robby to tell you what sound a pig makes? lol Just kidding. I like cops.
Oh, that’s so sweet. And funny. And memorable! Remember to notice the lasts, as well as the firsts! They grow so fast. (And I’m guessing you’re already sick of hearing older moms say that. lol I sure was. But I discovered they were right!)
okay, I love that he said “…do you understand my words” totally adorable
Hahaha - they grow up so fast, don’t they? And I’m guessing he’s heard something like “do you understand my words” from you before, right? It’s so funny (and sometimes eye-opening!) when I hear my own words come out of Cordy’s mouth.
What a big boy! That is great!
And Ca ca at our house is a new one too this last week… only we don’t know what it means to him, but we do know it sounds like a foreign cuss word so we are trying to nip it in the bud. F-U-N.
Our sons would get along great
Cah caa… that’s great…
Growing up is sad… Sad, sad and yet so great.
