Wherein I Could Do Lots of Linking but Just Don’t

Hey ya’ll. Thanks so much for your well-wishes. I’m doing pretty well. The beginning was a bit rough. I’m not a big fan of vomiting, but vomiting (I think because of the anesthesia, or perhaps the pain killers that I immediately stopped taking) can actually be worse than the horror it already is when coupled with very recent abdominal surgery. But I’m doing pretty well now, although I honestly expected to be a bit more recovered by this point. But yesterday I learned the hard way that I’m actually not ready to be up and around too much, after making the mistake of walking the boys to the playground with my mom. By the time I got there (which really is a short walk) I knew I’d made a mistake. So today I’m trying to force myself to continue to take it easy.

Unfortunately I still can’t really find a comfortable position in which I can be on the computer, so my blog-related catching up has been non-existent. Instead I’ve been watching a lot of movies (Sense and Sensibility, the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy (which means I’ve had the “Gondor” theme music in my head for like 76 hours, you know, the high violin one (yes, this is now a triple parenthetical)), Twilight…twice, but the first time I was in such a haze it didn’t count…wait, did I watch it 3 times?), catching up on some reading (finished Animal, Vegetable, Miracle as well as getting through my stack of backed-up issues of Brain, Child), and just sort of generally laying around.

So there you have it. I’m going to go and finish 300 now. But first, what can you tell me about bread makers? I think I want one.

  1. Here’s what I can tell you: Don’t get the Sunbeam 5891.

  2. Oh hon, anesthesia is my nausea-inducing nemesis as well. So sorry. Hang in there–wishing you well.

And on the bread maker tip, I’ve been just leaning toward free-form dough flopped onto a cookie sheet! ;)

    Rest and relax!

  3. I still remember the horror of a single cough after the c-section so I can’t imagine being sick. Yikes! Rest, rest and more rest for you.

I had a very nice breadmaker, but found myself using it very often and gave it to a friend. I tend to just mix up breads and pizza doughs with my cuisinart and get really good results that way.

  4. Feel better!

I could never make it through 300.

  5. Welcome back!! :) Lots of hugs and we’re thinking of you & wishing you a speedy recovery. I know nothing about bread machines except that: 1) my dad had one and was obsessed, and 2) I very nearly bought one yesterday. I bet it would be neat to have….

  6. I’m glad to see your update, but sorry you are still wrangling with the pain. Abdomens with surgical cuts = sadness.

    No bread machine advice. Sorry.

  7. I’m so glad you’re on the mend!

I love my breadmaker. We use it a lot, especially for pizza crust. My favorite is making a crock pot dinner and setting the timer on the bread machine!

You could probably get one cheap on Craig’s List or on Freecycle. I think it’s the kind of thing people get for gifts but then often don’t use. Ask around, I got mine from a friend who didn’t want it! (She only used it once!)

  8. hey beth,

i am so glad to hear you are taking in some movies and laying around. now, if only we could figure out how to do this once in a while WITHOUT the surgery. and without feeling guilty!

about bread makers. i’m a bit old school. i like to do it all by hand, however, we had a bread maker for years because hubby got really into it. and i have to say, they rock! you just dump everything in, pess a button and soon your house smells like fresh bread. what could be better? before we had kid we would do this all the time. and then eat like 1/2 the loaf as soon as it came out. cause it was that yummy. let me know if you get one. i have a few great bread machine cookbooks i can send you.

    hope the healing happens quickly!

  9. Glad you are recovering. Yes, please continue to take it easy. It is far too easy to get sucked into the “I’m just going to do this one thing.” and realize that it’s too much. Watch Twilight again. Especially the bedroom scene. Yeah!

Also, can you email me your address? I misplaced it and I require it. :)
