That Blows
So, as you know we’ve been sick. And as such, some things really fell by the wayside around here - I have yet to see the bottom of my kitchen sink, for example. It’s to be expected really and is fine. But unfortunately we missed the whole leaf-falling-on-lawn thing. So now our entire yard is covered with leaves and raking is quite a feat when we didn’t have the chance to stay on top of it from the start.
Anyway, my husband decided to have the yard workers that our neighbors use check out our yard and give us an estimate for what it would cost us to have them bring their handy dandy leaf blower on over here and blow our stuff around. I’m a firm believer in doing our own yard work, mostly because I enjoy it, but we figured that under the circumstances it might be worthwhile to have a group go at it with their big tools intended for just this purpose. Just this once, it would be a good $60 well spent.
So he called and asked them to come look, which they did. And they called back the next day to let us know what leaf blowing our property would cost (now, when I use a word like “property” I realize it sounds like we own some sort of estate or something. I assure you, we have a normal sized yard. It’s around 1/3 acre I think). Ready? The cost to blow our leaves off our lawn and into the street (not even the removal of the leaves) would be $185.
That’s right. One. Eight. Five . . . dollars. WOW.
I, um, guess we should get raking.

I bet there is some kid in your neighborhood who would love to earn $50.00 or so. I am remembering that leaf raking was being done last year at Thanksgiving.
um. yeah. that totally blows! dude. there has to be a cheaper option. college kids or something!
That is ridiculous!
That is so ridiculous! You can buy your own leaf blower for way less than that! DH has one now and it’s well worth the investment. You can blow the leaves or suck them up into a bag. Defin a huge time saver so we can get on to more fun things on the weekend.
And I think I should start a leaf-blowing service.
Yes, there MUST be a cheaper option. And really, do the leaves have to be raked? I know it’s preferable but you know, not the end of the world if they get left for now.
I was so wondering how much that would cost when I was slogging through the wet leaves the other day. Ugh. Our leaves seem to wait to drop until it gets really cold outside! You totally saved me a phone call and dashed my hopes for a rake-free fall next year!
ugh!!!!!!
yikes- I agree with comments above about buying a leaf blower…
or - I’m getting 3 small trees (ugly, and going into power lines) cut down soon in the front yard- no more leaves
Yowsa! This is why I choose to live in the city. No yard! And the city cleans up the leaves in the park. Yippee!
I am coming over with my leaf blower…. my cost? Doughnuts… and maybe chocolate milk. Dude they better be ripped, tan and in euro style swimwear!
DANG! They make the big bucks.
